Reed made boats, in which the descendants of the Indians swim across the lake and the huts in which they live. The roots of the reeds are eaten. Local Indians were taught to weave reed boats of the famous traveler Thor Heyerdahl.
Men fish, and women engaged in artisanal fisheries. Both for sale, and instead bought the products in addition to the main dish – fish. When the wind gonna rise up, hut can rip up and carry. But people don’t want their Islands, the lake feeds them and waters.
Sometimes, due to weeks of heavy rains, the rivers that flow into Titicaca, flood, lake water level rises up to four meters, and then flooded the villages are located on its shores.
Many legends are connected with the sacred lake. One of them talks about the gold of the Inca Indians, who, escaping from the Spaniards, hid it at the bottom of Titicaca.
